Teacher
From Hell
Non-Fiction Published eBook November 2010
This book recounts a series of unfortunate events
leading to one man standoff on April 24, 2009; a senior teacher forced a school evacuation and risked his life
under the scope of police snipers after being verbally abused, assaulted, falsely accused, slandered, reassigned
to a "rubber-room", discredited, fined, arrested and then released to be forced into
early retirement by the DOE.
Mr.
Garabitos demanded and prompted the "closing of the rubber-rooms" around the city. He argues that the
DOE has been high-jacked by lawyers & business profiteers that are not educators at all. An examination
of his 28 years teaching-career shows that because of his militant views, Mr. Garabitos has been in direct conflict
with Supervisors, Principals and the office of Special Investigation (OSI). However 20 of 22 allegations have been found
unsubstantiated. The book mentions a long list of comparative issues that show the immense risk and challenges of teaching
the American Underclass left behind. He survived 28 years through a hell-like battleground pushing for fairness and school
reforms in; Bilingual education, Sex education, Teacher Training, Vocational training, School construction, Computer education,
Online alternative schooling, Special education, Art and Music, Small class size, Parental Involvement, Day care, After School,
Testing, Charters Schools, Home School, Community Boards, Mayoral control and multiple labor union grievances to defend
the "due process" right for all teachers.
The author questions the legitimacy of the Department of Education management elite of business executives
(J. Klein & Cathie Black) and challenges the validity of using political slogans by debunking myths &
presenting facts against Merit pay, Test-based-evaluation, All children Can Learn, No Children
Left Behind, All Children are Equal, English Only-ESL, Morning prayers, Whole Language Instruction, only one-Workshop
model, Special Ed. Inclusion for all, and other instructional absurdities mandated by DOE bureaucrats.
Readers may gain insights to better understand the
system and learn how to survive through the treacherous maze of trip-wire traps & regulations used by The
NYC Department of Education.
